Dioctyl Terephthalate – (DOTP)

DOTP Dioctyl Terephthalate

DOTP is an organic compound. It is the most important of the phthalate-free orthophthalate plasticizers. It is an environmentally safe, colorless viscous liquid with good plasticizing properties. DOTP has a general purpose, environmentally safer plasticizer than most orthophthalate plasticizers. It is used in extrusion, calendering, injection molding, rotational molding, dip molding, aqueous molding and coating manufacturing.
One method of manufacture requires the transesterification of dimethyl terephthalate with 2-ethylhexanol;
C6H4 (CO) 2 (OCH3) 2 + 2 C8H17OH → C6H4 (CO2 C8H17) 2 + 2CH3OH
A second method of production is the direct esterification of terephthalic acid with 2-ethylhexanol:
C6H4 (CO2H) 2 + 2 C8H17OH → C6H4 (CO2 C8H17) 2 + 2H2O

The demand for plastic additives is growing sharply due to the increasing demand for plastic products worldwide. Global consumption of plastic additives exceeded 30 million metric tons in 2016 and is expected to increase significantly with the increasing replacement of wood and metal with safe, reliable, lightweight and cheap plastics. Automotive, electrical and electronics, construction, packaging, medical, durable consumer goods, etc. Large end-user industries, including metal, are supporting the transition from metal to low-cost plastic substitutes, which aggressively increases the demand for various plastic additives such as fillers, plasticizers, pigments and others.
The global Dioctyl Terephthalate (DOTP) Plasticizer market consumed more than 1 million metric tons in 2016, which is expected to show agile growth until 2026. Strong growth is expected in the global DOTP Plasticizer market. A CAGR of more than 10% in value over the forecast period. As phthalates are increasingly identified as substances of high importance (SVHCs) due to their endocrine disrupting properties for human health and the environment, the preference for DOTP plasticizers is increasing in sensitive applications requiring close human contact, such as food packaging, medical equipment and devices. , personal care products and toys, thus quickly revitalizing the global DOTP plasticizer market.
